Tamir is the Hebrew word which means tree or “to stand tall”. As an organization, Tamir strongly identifies with this word; standing tall, strongly rooted within the community, and most importantly, providing support to those around us.
For over 30 years, Tamir has been working to ensure people with developmental disabilities have opportunities to live with dignity and respect in the mainstream of our community. This would not be possible without the support of our generous donors.
Tamir supports people with Developmental Disabilities and people with Autism to live their best life by promoting individuality, independence, dignity, and community inclusion while embracing Jewish culture and values.
A society in which people with Developmental Disabilities and people with Autism live the life they choose as full and valued members of the community.
Tamir believes that people with Developmental Disabilities and people with Autism, relying on their own strengths and abilities, can make decisions about their lives, relationships, and well-being. This includes the active involvement of families, the Jewish community, and the broader community.
Tamir believes that people with Developmental Disabilities and people with Autism have the right to live safely in an inclusive community that respects their human rights, inherent dignity, andindependence. We are committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to provide equitable opportunities for all people, where diversity and strengths are nurtured and differences are respected. We recognize that differences and diversity contribute to the richness of society.
Tamir is committed to providing a Jewish environment which promotes Jewish culture, learning, spirituality, and the values of Jewish life, while welcoming people of all faiths, cultures, and backgrounds as members of the Tamir community.
Tamir believes that our role is to advocate and promote universal respect for human rights, dignity, and the inclusion of people with Developmental Disabilities and people with Autism in the Jewish and broader community. We believe that all facilities, programs, and communications should be in compliance with accessibility standards and the principles of universal design.
Tamir is committed to providing programs and services in a safe and secure environment that promotes healthy lifestyle choices, and optimizes physical and emotional health. The responsibility for health, safety, and prevention is shared with Tamir’s clients, their families, the organization and appropriate professional providers.
Tamir recognizes the contributions of our staff, volunteers, professionals and community partners. Our collaboration is characterized by a shared consciousness, a shared purpose, and an empowered execution. As a team, we share our knowledge and expertise with one another, with the goal of providing the highest quality care and services.
Tamir is innovative in providing services driven by evidence, outcomes, and continuous improvements. We rely on established best practices, our legal obligations, and current research to guide our decision-making and to contribute to the creation of more inclusive communities.
“Tamir has helped us to show that people with developmental disabilities can achieve our goals just like our brothers and sisters in our community.”
Donations help to provide quality of life beyond basic needs covered through government support. Through your generous donation, individuals can receive specialized therapies, obtain assistive devices and other equipment and Tamir can ensure the homes of our participants are well furnished and equipped. Through your support individuals can pursue their passions and enjoy new experiences. With your help, we can continue to provide a vibrant Judaic program for individuals to learn about, practice and celebrate Jewish life. By working together, we can ensure people with developmental disabilities can enjoy the quality of life alongside their families, friends and community each and every day.
There is so much that has already been accomplished yet so much that still needs to be done. We hope that you will take a few moments to consider supporting Tamir through membership, purchasing our Tribute cards, supporting one of our special fundraising events or with planned giving.
