Collaborative Organizations
"We owe a large vote of thanks to our community partners; people in business and non-profit organizations who recognize the benefits of inclusion. This award is as much theirs as it is Tamir’s," says Mark Palmer, Tamir’s Executive Director.
This quote was part of a newspaper article in the Canadian Jewish News to recognize the award Tamir received at the United Nations International Day of Disabled Persons, Celebration of People ceremony in December. The award honours individuals and organizations who promote inclusion and excellence through personal or corporate example. Tamir received its award for its efforts in developing volunteer work opportunities through its Passages Day Services Program and for enabling Jewish persons with developmental disabilities to learn about, practice and celebrate Jewish life through Judaic Outreach.
Tamir participants do a wide variety of jobs in the community; maintenance at a recreation centre, detailing cars at a rental company, photocopying documents at a law office. The list goes on and on. Each of these jobs provides a sense of worth and self satisfaction for the people who do them. Many thanks to the following corporations for their efforts to provide meaningful community opportunities to our participants.
